Cup Day
November 3, 2004
The Melbourne Cup was pretty much a disaster for anyone who went. A beautiful morning lulled everyone into a false sense of security and then the Melbourne weather came into play. In a big way. In ten minutes, the sun gave way to wind and a dust storm. Ten minutes later, the dust was pushed to the ground by the rain, coupled with the wind. 94,000 people, 75km/h winds and driving rain do not a fun day make. I feel sorry for the VRC though, as they were hoping to break the record by getting over 125,000 people through the gate. The girls didn’t even stick around for the running of the Cup, they bailed down to the Anglers as soon as the going got tough. I did manage to pick both first, Makybe Diva, and second, Vinnie Roe, though, to earn a little bit of cash. My trifecta was close, too, with Distinction finishing sixth, rather than Zazzman who finished third.
