Google to take on iTunes?

At any rate, Dave Winer sure likes to stir the pot. His take is that it’s based around RSS 2.0, natch.

Everyone else seems to think the two companies are hooking up to have their own baby.

Personally, I think a Google iTunes clone (gTunes?) would be great, but it would lead to a world of pain competition wise. Then add in compatibility, add-on services, tie-ins, etc and consumers are going to be confused. For example, try explaning Sony’s unecessary music format, ATRAC, to a digital music newcomer.

However, should they combine…well, that’s going to be the technology equivalent of Brad and Angelina having a kid…
