The deep end

My views on the (.au) news at the moment (no links, because publicity whoring is the name of the game)…
RU486 – This should be approved; every person should have the right to freedom of choice. I don’t care whether it’s about babies or the flavour of sorbet. I don’t think this even merits an argument.
Danish cartoons – Both sides have got it wrong. The fundamentalists/extremists (whichever are causing trouble) should appreciate the freedom of speech the CDC (contemporary dominant culture) have imposed on the (almost global) media. At the same time, the publishers of the cartoons, including the brat Tim Blair, should appreciate the fundamental tenets of religons, even if they are removed from your own. Sure, the original artists may be able to plead ignorance, but dickheads like Blair have no screen to hide behind.
Julia Gillard – I’m trying really hard to be on your side, but ditch the party rhetoric and stand on your own two feet. When you did this tonight on Lateline, I appreciated it; the rest was party bullshit, and we can see straight through it. Labour is in the shit, give me reason to even consider your party.
Eddie McGuire and Channel 9 – I don’t know how this will pan out. It could be the best thing to happen, or a disaster. Let’s hope he has the same result that he had with Collingwood. I wish him every luck…he’s going to need it. (Disclosure: I’m a proud Pie fan.)
The Commonwealth Games and the Winter Olympics – Blegh, nobody is really interested, including the majority of Melbourne residents. Bring on the World Cup, even if it is in Germany and we’re going to have to stay up all night. As for Australia’s chances? Sure, we got in, but we don’t stand a chance. All the backpage reporting isn’t going to change that, so bring on the South Korea of 2006.

RU486: Argeed but should be remembered that the bill before parlement is whether a politician should choose or the regulator. Its a no contest. Shouldn’t be a poly.
Eddie: I was impressed by Eddies comment on ACA especially about the threat of new media.
