Stealth ringtones for kids
May 25, 2006
I don’t know how accurate this is, but BoingBoing have posted about a security device that is basically a high pitched noise that only teenagers can hear. I assume that as we slowly kill off our hearing with time, we lose the ability to hear it. The noise is being used by shop owners to stop kids hanging around the shopping centers, but in a delightful twist, the noise has apparently been turned into a ringtone, ‘Teen Buzz’, that lets the same kids use their phones in class without the teacher having any idea what is going on.
It’s a bit of a long stretch, but if true, it’s a great kids-strike-back story.

Gosh! Its surprising to see softwares like http://www.slyye.com already offering customized ringtones for very cheap. Now kids can create their ringtones out of any music file on their computer.
As if this new boing wasnt bad enough.
