James Bond and the Nokia 8800
August 30, 2006
I’m a Bond nut, no two ways about it. I’m also a big Nokia fan (all of my five mobiles have been from the big N). But with the recent choice of Bond, and now the rumour that he is apparently using a crappy 8800, which may look good but is as versatile as a plastic tumbler, I’m not sure how much I’m looking forward to Casino Royale (which, incidentally, is still one of the best Bond novels written).
I mean, the phone came out in 2005, the movie is going to be 2007 – it’s already two years old. Bond should have something that won’t even be available in two years, if at all. Given how much some companies seem to have invested in product placement, it could be one product shot to the next. Even then, the mileage that Philips got out of their four-and-a-half-seconds in Die Another Day will take some beating.
At least he gets a kick-arse Aston Martin. Poor Vesper’s stuck chatting on a Sony Ericsson, urgh.
