What you want to hear before traveling

Date September 17, 2006

Multiple bombs go off in Thailand, just as I’m trying to finish packing to go. Not really reassuring, but what can you do. I’m heading to Phuket, which thankfully isn’t that close to Hat Yai.

The general travel warning for all areas is still higher than what is really comfortable (‘High degree of caution‘), but with our hotel having just been reconstructed after the tsunami, what could possibly go wrong?

    You had to ask . . .
    um, a coup maybe

That’s what you get for tempting fate I guess! Still, we’re in Phuket rather than Bangkok and there has been no indication of any unrest at all.

I might be a bit careful about making flippant comments to tempt fate!
