The flashier they are…

Raduza’s Law I: The more things that something can do is directly proportionate to the amount of things that can go wrong with it.

Tonight’s case in point is the new 80Gb 5.5G iPod I bought last week. My old black and white 20Gb was pretty reliable and updated quite quickly when hooked up to iTunes. The new one takes forever to sync, even when only copying a few files. It reset itself twice today for no reason and, earlier tonight, iTunes stopped recognising it and Windows only opened it as a removable drive. This was fixed by uninstalling it via the Device Manager and restarting the PC and the iPod. It’s recognising it again, but I’m now sitting through yet another marathon update to copy across three podcasts. Apple better be working on some updates for this or else there will be a lot of frustration going around.

Thankfully, this little guy is staying away

My Nokia 3230 is the same. It does a shitload, from calls and calendar through to movies and music, but also has a nasty habit of restarting itself at the most inappropriate times. Back in the days of the old 5100, you could back over that thing and it would still be right as rain; now you look sideways at the 3230 and it craps itself.

This must be the price we pay for having kickarse gadgets, I suppose.
