WordPress first impressions
November 13, 2007
Here’s what I think of WordPress after the first 24hrs. This is coming from someone who is not all that developy-minded, but has migrated from Blogger to Movable Type to WordPress.
- Easy install. Literally five minutes, including setting up a MySQL database. Can’t top that.
- Great community of themes and plugins. I think I’ve only scratched the surface so far
- Best price – Free!
- Dashboard is very easy to use, including configuring plugins, switching themes, importing 500+ old posts and comments.
- Compared to Movable Type, everything is just that little bit more user-friendly. MT has a lot of power, but you need to know what you’re doing, which I didn’t really. WP has a very basic learning curve, particularly when moving from other platforms.
I’m sure I’ll keep going on about the move, but that’s what I’ve noticed at this early stage. Now I need to start looking at uninstall MT and moving WP to the top level of the server.

Congrats on the move. As one who moved from Typepad (their hosted service) to WordPress (me hosting my own) I found the flexibility a blessing and a curse. Its great to have so much choice, but I found it an easy trap just changing things all the time and not adding any content.

Hi Molly,
Thanks! I agree about adding content, going to have to work on that…
